Honoring Pioneering Physician-Researchers: Prof. Raz Somech, Inaugural Recipient of the Kadar-Sheba Prize
In 2021, the Naomi Prawer Kadar Foundation and Sheba Medical Center inaugurated the Kadar-Sheba Prize for Excellence in Research, a $100,000 award recognizing the physician-researcher whose work best bridges cutting-edge science with transformative clinical care. The inaugural recipient, Prof. Raz Somech, Director of the Jeffrey Modell Foundation Center for Primary Immunodeficiencies and senior physician in Sheba’s Department of Pediatrics, was honored for his groundbreaking contributions to immunology and genetic research that have improved diagnosis and treatment for children with rare immune disorders.
The prize reflects the Foundation’s belief in supporting clinicians who not only care for patients but also advance medical knowledge through rigorous, compassionate research—a vision that continues to guide this national prize today.
